The Center for Climate Change and Sustainability Education (CECCSE) of Union of Christian Universities of the Caribbean (UNICUC) is an organization responsible for promoting and developing climate change education, particularly in the countries of the Caribbean community, specifically in Haiti where the environment is threatened.
Cutting-edge research on climate change and education for sustainable development that shapes the development of exceptional and free professional development for all teachers and school leaders of member universities of the Union of Christian Universities of the Caribbean (UNICUC)
The importance of teacher development in the area of climate change and sustainability education is difficult to overestimate. This is the defining existential challenge of our time and the world that school children will encounter as adults will be different from our world today and in the countries of the Caribbean, especially in Haiti where the degradation of the environment is really sad.
Our aim is to provide research-based professional development for teachers and school leaders across all phases, subjects and career stages.
About UsTeaching young people about climate change and sustainability must include but also go beyond the science of climate change and develop knowledge and values to help them adapt to a changing world and seize opportunities that more sustainable lifestyles could offer.
Teachers also need to know how to support young people with associated health and wellbeing issues, including increasing levels of eco-anxiety. These are issues that need to be incorporated into the school curriculum, but we know that many teachers lack confidence in this area.
We will work in all the member universities of the Union of Christian Universities of the Caribbean to ensure that this professional development is not only informed by our own research on current practices in schools and universities, but also by recent academic research to ensure that all our materials are up to date.
